Flooring buying guide and frequently asked questions
Highline stocks a huge inventory of flooring in luxury vinyl plank, laminate, and engineered wood, plus loose lay options for quick installs. Based in DFW, we deliver across Texas in 1-2 days for builders, contractors, and homeowners.

Choosing a flooring type:
Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) has a 100% waterproof core and mimics real wood or stone, making it best for kitchens, bathrooms, and other high-traffic or moisture-prone areas. Laminate gives a budget-friendly wood look with a durable wear layer, but it isn't fully waterproof, so it's better suited to living rooms and bedrooms than wet areas. Engineered Wood pairs a real hardwood veneer with a stable plywood core, handling moisture and temperature swings better than solid hardwood and often installing directly over the concrete slabs common in Texas homes. Loose Lay planks use a heavy, textured backing plus adhesive at the perimeter and seams to stay securely in place, a lighter installation than a full glue-down floor, but not glue-free.

Q. What's the difference between luxury vinyl plank and laminate flooring?
A.  LVP has a waterproof vinyl core, making it a strong choice for kitchens, bathrooms, and entryways. Laminate uses a wood-look wear layer over a fiberboard core, isn't waterproof, and works best in lower-moisture rooms, generally at a lower cost.

Q. Is engineered wood flooring good for Texas homes?
A. Yes, its plywood core handles humidity and temperature swings better than solid hardwood and can typically be installed directly over a concrete slab foundation, common in Texas construction.

Q. What is loose lay vinyl flooring?
A. Loose lay planks use a heavy, textured backing combined with adhesive applied at the perimeter and seams to stay securely in place. It's a lighter installation than a full glue-down floor, but it isn't glue-free, since the adhesive is what keeps the planks from shifting over time.

Q. Can I install vinyl plank flooring in a bathroom or kitchen?
A. Yes, luxury vinyl plank is 100% waterproof and one of the most popular flooring choices for kitchens, bathrooms, and mudrooms.

Q. Which flooring brands do you carry?
A. Mohawk, Shaw, Lions, Jackson, Lawson, Bella Cera, D&M, LW, Modern Homes and Kahrs, across luxury vinyl plank, laminate, engineered wood, and loose lay categories.

Q. How fast can I get flooring delivered in Texas?
A. In-stock flooring typically ships within 1-2 business days from our DFW warehouse across Texas.

Q. Can contractors get wholesale pricing on flooring?
A. Our pricing is the same for every signed-in buyer, whether you’re a contractor or a homeowner. Create a free account to see pricing, save quotes, and track orders. For larger projects, contact our team about volume pricing, since bigger orders can lower the per-unit cost.

Q. Which flooring is best for homes with pets and kids?
A.  Luxury Vinyl Plank is usually the best fit for busy households. Its protective wear layer resists scratches and scuffs, and its waterproof core handles spills and pet accidents without swelling. For the most durability, look for a thicker wear layer, listed in mils in the product details. Laminate also resists scratches well and costs less, but it isn’t waterproof, so spills need to be wiped up quickly. Engineered wood offers a real hardwood look but scratches more easily, so it’s better suited to lower-traffic rooms.

Q. What flooring works best in a basement or ground-level room with moisture?
A. Luxury Vinyl Plank is the safest choice for moisture-prone spaces, since its 100% waterproof core won't warp or swell the way laminate or engineered wood can if exposed to humidity or occasional water contact.

Q. Does Highline provide flooring installation, or is it material only?
A. Highline supplies material only. We stock and deliver flooring across Texas, but installation is handled by your own contractor or installer, so confirm labor and installation costs separately from your material order.
